- What is the ROI Mini-Converter? AJA’s ROI Mini-Converter allows exceptionally high quality conversion of computer DVI and HDMI signals with “Region of Interest” support, to professional video over SDI at an affordable price and a very portable size. With extensive audio functionality, incredible image scaling as well as aspect and frame rate conversion, ROI ful"lls the growing need to properly incorporate computer signals into the video world without sacri"cing budget or space. ROI's most powerful feature is the ability to interactively select a Region of Interest from the incoming DVI or HDMI signal and scale that portion of the image to the SD or HD output resolution using AJA's high quality scaling algorithms for the cleanest picture quality possible. What are some typical uses for the ROI? One common usage of ROI is in live news or information programming where the contents of a computer screen, say an embedded web video or browser page, need to be incorporated into the SDI video pipeline. ROI can be used to extract any portion of the computer screen by selecting a “Region of Interest” interactively from within the free MiniCon"g application on Mac or Windows. That region is then scaled to "t within a standard SD or HD frame, depending on your desired output. The resizing is done using AJA’s high-quality scaling technology that ensures the cleanest possible output, all in realtime. With a growing amount of computer-based video, ROI provides the gateway between the computer and video worlds for seamless, high-quality integration. What connections does the ROI have? ROI has a DVI-D input as well as a 3.5mm analog audio input for integrating computer audio. A Reference input allows ROI to be locked to a house reference signal, ensuring the SDI output is properly synchronized. HDMI signals can be fed into ROI by using a standard HDMI-to-DVI cable or adapter. The ROI also offers straight pass through of the incoming DVI signal. This means ROI can be connected in-line with a DVI monitor, so it’s not a dead-end device. Proper EDID authentication is passed through ROI so your computer can identify the DVI monitor and con"gure properly. The SDI output supports all standard SD and HD signal formats. ROI can handle aspect ratio and frame rate conversion as well. What input formats are supported? ROI supports the following input types: DVI • VGA (640x480) minimum • WUXGA (1920x1200) 60 Hz max Note: Frame rates limited by the 165Mhz max rate of the DVI Rx HDMI • 525i/625i • 480p/580p (DSLR cameras) • 720p 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, 60 • 1080i 50, 59.94 • 1080p 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30
